UPDATE: Due to an overwhelming response from our Reedy River neighbors and January's wintery weather, we have extended the Polar Pickup supply request period by an additional week! Be sure to request your free cleanup supplies before Sunday, February 8, 2026 to participate in the Polar Pickup, then complete and report your litter collection by February 22 to have your collected litter count toward our 2026 Polar Pickup Litter Totals!
________
Join Friends of the Reedy River for our Second Annual Polar Pickup in January 2026! This year, we’re partnering with our friends at Greenville County Litter Ends Here to host a month-long cleanup initiative. We’ve made it easy for all our Reedy River Watershed neighbors to get involved and protect our local waterways.
We know that water quality and litter are issues that often hit close to home. That’s why we’re inviting you to help clean up the spots you notice every day—right in your local community. Our goal is to intercept litter on land before it travels to the Reedy River, where it becomes harder to remove and a greater threat to water quality.
We’ll deliver all the supplies—safety vests, gloves, pickup sticks, and bags—straight to your door for free. Once you’re finished, we will pick up your bags and any large items (like tires), so you don’t have to worry about hauling or disposing of the litter you collect!
To participate, please review the full event details and sign up using the volunteer form at the link below. Registering your group helps us coordinate your efforts, track participation throughout the watershed, and ensure all collected trash is properly removed so we can measure our true impact together!
Supplies may take up to three days to be delivered to your location, so be sure to register a few days before you plan to head out for your litter cleanup. Supply delivery begins as early as December 29 and ends on February 13 (Extended from original 1/29 end date). Please contact us with any questions!
Be sure to share your cleanup on social media by tagging us @friendsofreedyriver and using the hashtag #reedytrashtag!
